Community Grants

Community solar is a program for the community. Instead of the solar farm creating revenue by selling the energy to the utility, local residents and businesses buy the energy through a subscription. People subscribe to the energy created in the solar farm that offsets the brown power used at their home.

In 2020 SEAI supported 25 projects under the Communities Energy Grant Scheme with total Government funding of €18.7 million offered. This supported the energy efficiency upgrades in 656 homes delivered to a B2 standard and 240 non domestic projects delivered. Projects worth €43M were supported through CEG 2020.

Cumulatively the programme has now supported upgrades in 18,856 homes and 2,810 non-domestic buildings.

181.5 GWh total energy credits saved (obligated energy suppliers)

Better Energy Communities is SEAI national retrofit initiative with grant support of up to €28 million for 2021. it supports new approaches to achieving energy efficiency in Irish communities. Upgrades can take place across building types to reduce energy use and costs throughout the community. We aim to deliver energy savings to homeowners, communities, and private sector organisations. All projects should be community oriented with a cross-sectoral approach, and you must show that you can sustainably finance the proposed project.
